About Us


Here at Rental Coach, we love helping people understand accounting and tax. We setup Rental Coach to help landlords through the maze of (ever growing) obligations from Inland Revenue and other government departments and help landlords be able to meet their obligations. We love it when people learn what they need and 'get it' and are able to apply it for themselves.


We know that some accountants just want to collect their fee for doing their rental preparation work each year. We have a different philosophy - we want to empower landlords to be able to understand the numbers and be able to do their own tax returns if they want to. So, we developed a range of courses to suit all landlords in what they might need to know. A typical accountant will charge at least $120 + GST for 1 hour for their advice. For less than that price, you have access to an up-to-date course for 12 months (sales plug over!).


Rental Coach is run by a New Zealand based company, Learn Accounting NZ Ltd. Our leadership team have forty years combined experience in the accounting profession working in large chartered accounting firms, smaller private practices, and not-for-profits.


Learn Accounting NZ Ltd also offers the product “Accountants Studio” ( which is an e-learning training system for new employees at accounting firms. What we teach to you is the same as what we would teach accountants in accounting firms (minus the jargon!).

Leadership Team


Andrea has been the lead trainer at BDO at New Plymouth, setting up the in-house training programme and training approximately 40 new staff members during her time there. As well as her Bachelor of Business Studies from Massey University she also holds a Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Secondary) from Bethlehem Tertiary Institute. This has helped equip her with the necessary skills to set up both Rental Coach and Accountants Studio. She has also had experience in small practices involved in general commercial, rentals, farming, and was working in Australia when the country implemented their GST system and was involved in training clients and staff.




Murray has been an investigations officer at the Inland Revenue Department, a senior accountant at a private accounting practice, and for five years the finance director of a large charity. He is currently also working for a charitable company which provides accountancy services to Churches and other not-for-profit organisations within New Zealand. He also teaches two accounting papers at a local tertiary institute. Murray has many years of experience with rental properties, both preparing tax returns and auditing them (so he has seen the good and the bad!).

He has a Bachelor of Business Studies (Accountancy) through Massey University and is currently working towards a Post Graduate Diploma of Business Enterprise through Southland Institute of Technology.
